SFGodzillafest started at the Castro Theatre in San Francisco in 2004, celebrating the 50th anniversary of Godzilla. Taking place over seven days with 21 films, toy & art dealers and special guests from Japan (Hiroshi Koizumi, Akira Kubo and Tsutomu Kitagawa) and America (Russ Tamblyn, Jerry Ito and Ed Keane).
As the years went on we did Godzilla Nights and Godzilla Weekends at various venues, finally returning to SFGodzillafest, after returning to San Francisco and finding a new home at the Balboa Theater.
In 2024, in addition to the film fest at the Balboa, we returned SFGodzillafest to a full blown convention with a gymnasium full of dealers and Megumi Odaka as our guest.
The convention was a success and we organized it with the cooperation of Japantown, holding it in the Japanese Cultural and Community Center of Northern California.
